The Artist
Anna's artistic practice is simply a response to an inner call to paint, which hardly ever is silent.
Anna is drawn to still life and portrait painting as a way of noticing form and light in ordinary moments. Her paintings are compositions of items, people and light conditions she has experienced in her life, being observant and attentive to the present moment. The series she works on may be a memory of particular light conditions, like the figurative paintings from French Polynesia. Though most often her work emerges from her mind playing with compositions of ceramics seen in the most common places, while adhering them to a specific environment which evokes a certain emotion.
Even from a young age Anna has travelled extensively and studied the aesthetics regarded in other cultures, particularly Asian, while holding on to memories of growing up in a small village in Latvia. This background allows her to bring visual references into her work. In her day to day life in Copenhagen, Denmark she works as a trained landscape architect, shaping environments to enrich people’s lives, challenging status quo regarding people’s relationship to the environment and nature. Through her profession, she is exploring the subtle qualities of a space and how they affect the individual’s state of being.
