Still life on wood
In her current Still Life on Wood series, Anna captures the calm atmosphere and warmth experienced in her surroundings while celebrating the classical genre of still life. It is a recognition that an environment designed with care and respect for the beauty of form and materials affect the people in it with a sense of calm and empowerment. It is an atmosphere that speaks close to her heart, as it ties together natural materials and direct influences from Scandinavian interiors, ceramics as well as Japanese architecture, where the sense of calm is so generously present.
The unique oil painting technique allows to perceive the materiality and texture of plywood. The wooden texture dissolves into the space and the objects, becoming the material that holds the atmosphere. This painting process requires the artist to be completely present in the layering of paint and making immediate marks, which seep into the wood. So do the finished paintings offer an invitation to slow down and be present in one’s environment, to be curious and to wonder about the unseen and spaces between.
